UC Berkeley to Host Two Free Virtual Workshops for Teachers

Teachers, parents, (and parent-teachers) need strategies to help children effectively work independently online in order to ensure continued student learning during shelter-in-place orders.  The UC Berkeley History-Social Science Project (UCBHSSP) aims to provide that support through two new virtual workshops, offered for free and scheduled for the next two weeks.

Coordinator Devin Hess will lead Applying Literacy & Historical Thinking in the Digital Realm on March 31 from 4-5 pm.  Hess will share strategies to help students categorize and analyze evidence in text using a Google Docs add-on.  Coordinators Phyllis Goldsmith and Jason Muñiz will host A Model Independent Study Unit (Civil Rights) on April 7 from 4-5 pm.  Goldsmith and Muñiz will demonstrate a Civil Rights unit, specifically designed for independent study students.  Both workshops will be made available at no charge, but interested participants will need to register for the March 31 workshop here and the April 7 workshop here.

These two history-social science workshops are part of a larger series hosted by the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Education’s Professional Development Providers (PDP) network.  Both workshops also support the CHSSP’s #CHSSPLive effort, designed to provide resources and support for parents, teachers, and students during the COVID-19 crisis.

For more information on these two workshops or the online series, contact the UC Berkeley History-Social Science Project at ucbhssp@berkeley.edu.
